beginner's tips
Here is an assorted list of tips and stratagems that will prove helpful for a newcomer to Vox Imperium.
- In the early game, the most important thing is to obtain a source of all three basic resources – Food, Wood, and Metal. Build a few Workers and place them on tiles that produce what your Settlement does not.
- Food and Wood are important resources in the early game, with Metal becoming more important later.
- If you are unable to obtain a crucial resource, consider sending Workers to gather Gold for trade at the Marketplace.
- The Market fluctuates over time. Buy low and sell high.
- Gathering Relics can also make a great deal of Gold – but beware putting them in the hands of your enemies!
- Don’t fall behind the production race. If your neighbors have more resources, they can easily overwhelm you.
- Don’t over-invest in production. An empire of Farms is easily overran!
- Workers are almost helpless! Don’t leave them undefended!
- Since Settlements produce Conscripts, Camps are not needed immediately.
- All movement costs resources. Think twice, move once.
- Moving cannons is particularly expensive. Consider investing heavily in Roads if you have many to move.
- Firing cannons is expensive too. Be careful to use them only when cheaper methods of attack are inappropriate.
- Run your Roads through heavily defended buildings. It won’t hurt you, but it will hinder an invader.
- Sending a sortie to destroy a vulnerable Worker may turn out to be more expensive than its worth, when travel costs are considered. Only attack when it is to your advantage.
- Don’t let your opponents secure a steady source of Relics. The result will be a forest of fortifications that won’t come down easily!
- Movement on the Seas is much more fluid than movement on land – always watch for an attack from afar.
- If you notice your neighbors building Barns, it means Horsemen will be coming soon. It might be time to invest in better defense.
- If you notice your neighbors building Forges, quickly build one of your own. There is nothing worse than being bombarded without being able to fight back.
- An invasion is no time to be upgrading buildings! Plan ahead so you have the material you need when the attack comes.
- When your opponent upgrades his fortifications, it is a perfect time to invade! Construction is universally weak and can be wiped out easily.
- Guard your Construction. It is very weak.
- Keep a reserve of resources so you can shift units around to meet unexpected threats. A player without resources is paralyzed!
- Gunships have amazing power and range. Control the seas and raid at your own pace!
